metalmike
I am new to oscommere. I used to use miva and this is a lot different. I guess the main thing I want to know is, on our old site i used dreamweaver to build html pages and then connected certain products to the miva site. This seems to be a lot different. How do I create my own index page? Do i need to do it through the admin and enter my own code? Also how do you configure the product pages to be more customized? If there is some sort of online guide that might be helpful. Thanks for all your help
Jack_mcs
You have to edit certain files in order to change the look of the shop. Or, you can install the STS contribution and use images created with DreamWeaver. The latter is not as easy as what you are used to but is much easier than the first method, at least initially. Guest
You need to get used to editing the php to make it look how you want. As far as adding, editing, removing products you will do that through the admin gui area. It's quite easy once you get the hang of it. That being said, I use dreamweaver to download individual php files that I need to edit. I edit them in Dreamweaver and then upload back to the server. Just switch your view to code view to work on the php.

I know basic html, thats why i use dreamweavr because it has code view/design view. What do you recommend?
Guest
I didn't know anything about php either, I still can't write a single line of code on my own. I simply search the forum and contributions for things I need. You don't really have a choice here though. You have to just dive in, try simple changes one at a time. Make backup files first (alternate name), make a change, save the file, upload it, refresh your browser and see if your change did what you wanted/expected. If not, rename your original file back to the correct name and upload it, refresh your browser and now you should be back to where you started. If you don't have someone you can hire (and trust) to be there every step of the way for now and years to come...then you have to learn to get by. It's really not too big a deal if you keep it in perspective. Baby steps until you figure out how to accomplish what you need. Another OK resource to customize your osCommerce is the osCDox site. Check out the Wiki and the forum. I think this site is the best forum by far, but you never know what you may find.
