dar3000 Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 This is my first ecommerce site and would like your feedback and thoughts on the look and how it works. I still have a few things to update such as the latest items I added -there is no price or description. I will also be updating the other descriptions making them more descriptive. There are some images I took early on and didn't have the backgrounds down yet. I'll be re-shooting them and updating those images in a few days. With that said, how do you like the site? Any suggestions and or criticisms would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. Robert www.silverstonetraders.com
Andrew Yuen Posted June 30, 2007 Posted June 30, 2007 Images are slow loading, consider a thumbnail contribution. I like the rustic brush you applied to the overall template. Your store could use a logo. Other then that, I would remove the product count within the categories infobox and add a CSS rollover effect to the navigation links in the header. Also be sure to include privacy, conditions of use and shipping/returns information. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team
ryuken Posted July 2, 2007 Posted July 2, 2007 Site is loading pretty slow for me and I think its due to the images. Definately look into using the thumbnail contribution. Other then that I think the site looks great.
dar3000 Posted July 2, 2007 Author Posted July 2, 2007 Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to work on image sizes today. Good idea with the CSS rollover. I've been working on the return and privacy stuff. Just haven't quite got them done. It's hard when it's only me doing everything from photo to programing to writing product descriptions and then coming up with a marketing plan. BUT it WILL BE DONE!
dar3000 Posted July 3, 2007 Author Posted July 3, 2007 I installed On the Fly Auto Thumbnailer by Rick Harris. It seems to work like a charm. Let me know if the site is loading faster now. Thanks.

Nice color scheme. - Get rid of the default icons (e.g. http://silverstonetraders.com/catalog/imag...ifications.gif) - Disallow the directory listing: http://silverstonetraders.com/catalog/images/ If you dont know how to do it via the apache config (or dont have access to it) simply put an empty index.html in that directory, which will be loaded by default

I placed a blank index page in the images file and took care of that problem. One question though, what was your click-through to get to the second link you mentioned? I know that's the notify me link, but I don't understand how you got to the "images/box_products_notifications.gif)" section of the link. Thanks again for your feedback.

The image appeared on the first page. Right-clicked on the image > View Image.
dar3000 Posted July 4, 2007 Author Posted July 4, 2007 Now I feel stupid. Get rid of the default images is what you said and I read something entirely different. Need to get new glasses. Thanks again.
