New Installation Failing On Step 2

Hi everyone,

I'm new to OSCommerce and I'm trying to run it on my local machine using Apache 2.2.3 and PHP 5.2.0 on Windows XP Home.

I've set up a blank database as required, and I proceed to enter the info on the 2nd screen (server, user, pw, database, etc) but then when I hit "continue" the next page loads only half way and does not specify an error message. It just says "database import", as if it is trying to import it, but then the page doesn't finish loading.

One page on the OSCommerce topic of "pre-install" mentions changing file permissions to 777, but I have no idea how to do that on Windows. Is that necessary? Or does have this set on the files as default?

Can anyone point me in the right direction to get past this odd error?

Thanks,

Louis.

Hi, thanks for the response. I don't know what xaamplite is. Google does not seem to get any specific result when I search that term. It also asked me "did you mean xampplite"?

Could you send me a link?

Thanks,

Louis.

Hello everyone,

I still cannot get OSCommerce to configure on my own computer. I've even installed XAAMPLite as one user suggested, and I've set register_globals to ON and I've created a blank database in MySQL. I'm not sure what else I'm lacking. As mentioned in the original post, I'm not getting an error message, the page just isn't loading properly while it attempts to import my database.

Does the database have to have a certain number of tables, columns or rows? I would think not.

Please assist if possible or direct me to a page that explains how to install OSCommerce on a windows system.

Thanks,

Louis

What I did for xamp lite...start apache..start mysql...open http://localhost in browser..click on phpmyadmin... read instructions.....create blank database - user = root - no password... - drop a .htaccess in catalog root dir with phpglobals on in it....run install on osc - enter dbase name you created, user=root, password= [leave blank]..install as usual. then for includes/config right click - select properties then [read only] - and rename install dir to xxinstall. That's it. I have over a dozen different versions and forks of osc and other brand shops all running perfect on my hard drive. The only diff is you cant use mod-rewrite for seo urls - and "oscid=" will appear on your urls if you don't go admin/sessions/ force cookies.

All up... should take you 2 minutes before you are sipping coffee admiring all the lovely action dvd's for sale.

Hi, I'm having the same trouble but i'm trying to do the install straight onto a live site. Its driving me crazy! The bizarre thing is I am using the same version of OSC that I made work with the same hosts, yet this time round it gives me grief...

Any help would be appreciated.

After installing xampplite, I got a message saying that not having a password on root account is dangerous so I put a password using phyMyAdmin. Then it start to give me an error about not being able to connect to the database or something similar. I deleted the whole xampplite folder to reinstall it. After reinstallation, I get "The page cannot be displayed" error. I'm getting all these problems before even trying to install oscommerce.

errr. this is not the xampplite forum BTW..

but first run setup_xampp.bat then apache_start.bat then mysql_start.bat.

Accept all defaults including warning no password, follow my previous and it works.

The warnings about password are only valid when one of us is going to HACK into your computer and read all your email.
