I've installed Oscommerce and when I try to access the site I recieve the following error:

Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory.

I have search for the catalog directory but have been unable to locate it.

Open up notepad.exe and type the following:

register_globals = ON

Be sure it is typed exactly as I have it. Now, click FILE > SAVE AS. Under "Save as type" choose "All files". Save the file as php.ini (be sure it is not php.ini.txt)

Upload this file to your public_html folder (root folder)

Problem solved.

Then your hosting provider must have register_globals adjustements disabled, even on the indivdual hosting account level.

Check with your hosting provider and they will tell you exactly what to do, or they will enable it for you.

If not, change hosts.

What do you mean inaccessable? Thats not the error you got on the screen. In order to help, we need to know what the error said.

When I added the php.ini file then tried to open my website all I got was a blank white page. No error statements, nada, zip. Never saw that one before. Of course, once I removed the php.ini file it opened up fine.

I'm talking about the main website here, not the oscommerce site attached to the main website. That is stil giving the error statement I detailed above.

Hello Sir,

I have a similar problem and my server is windows 2003 and i get this error when i go to domainname.com/catalog/install

FATAL ERROR: register_globals is disabled in php.ini, please enable it!

If i go to the domainname.com/catalog i can see this error

Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory

I have put the php.ini file as requested by you but still find myself in the same fix.

Please help me to sort it out.

regards

venkat
