netbull Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Hi, OSC is very good script but why don`t have a template system like Joomla or some CMS ? It`s very hard to change every week the look of my shop. I Need Money
zhexiang Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 There's a system called Sismple Template System available at http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...template+system Once installed, you only change this file catalog/includes/sts_template.html to have different design layout for your osc. But why would someone change the shop layout so often?
netbull Posted June 20, 2007 Author Posted June 20, 2007 is this compable with Template Monster Designs ? I like changes :) I Need Money

Guest Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 Hi, OSC is very good script but why don`t have a template system like Joomla or some CMS ? It`s very hard to change every week the look of my shop. Err ignore the prior blank post. I have discovered that i can use my own html pages simply by defining a few dirs in config, adding a few <?php echos and some tep_images to the html, then requiring them in the head and column etc php files. Still experimenting but seems to work fine. Sure opens a lot of doors in regard to layouts. I think the other template systems are too complex for my needs, so I'll hardcode my own.
Bloged Posted June 20, 2007 Posted June 20, 2007 is this compable with Template Monster Designs ?I like changes :) It probably won't be compatible with Template Monster because they alter the source code of osC too. So you won't by a template, but the whole code repository... if I'm not mistaken! Grtz, Arjan Gelderblom I think computer viruses should count as life. zhexiang Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 is this compable with Template Monster Designs ?I like changes :) Nay, template monster is different. They handcoded the template. And the code structure is different. So i don't think it's compatable. I also handcode my own template myself. So, what do you say, netbull?
bkellum Posted June 21, 2007 Posted June 21, 2007 Hi, OSC is very good script but why don`t have a template system like Joomla or some CMS ? It`s very hard to change every week the look of my shop. The Simple Template System can be as easy or as hard as you want to make it. You can use a single template that would be used for every page in your shop or a specific template for each page in your shop. You can use the default osC infobox design or make a template to be used for all infoboxes in your shop or make specific templates for each infobox in your shop. The choice is up to you. There are several template options available in STS. For example you could template the popup image, category and product pages, even the actual content of those pages can be templated. STS is as simple as using any WYSIWYG HTML editor and placing the tags where you want the osCommerce objects to appear. Tags are explained in detail in the documentation that comes with the contribution. You can also use purchased templates and integrate them into your STS layouts. It does not even have to be osCommerce templates but any web template would work. Regarding osCommerce templates... *STS Tip* How to integrate a purchased template to be used with STS: To make an STS template out of a purchased osCommerce template, Install the store in a test directory (meaning, follow all of the installation instructions that came with your purchased template, but be sure to do this in a test osCommerce scenario. You will use these files in your final "live" osCommerce store. Open the store in your browser View the Source Code and Save the html code to your computer Use this html code as the default template (sts_template.html) and start replacing the different elements with their corresponding STS Tags. Use the boxes class (includes/classes/boxes.php) from the template you bought Modify the external stylesheet from the purchased template to your needs (if needed) The above should get you started in the right direction. When buying a store with contributions already installed, be aware that it does not include BTS (Basic Template System) as it is totally incompatible with STS and most other contributions since it changes the code so drastically.
