Guest
Sorry its a long post, but this might answer a lot of (all) questions on database import/export edit help on any forum. I had trouble formatting CSV files in excel, the product descriptions were a pain....and I got sick of scrolling across the page. I could import/export no problems, but the editing was frustrating and I hate excel anyway(sorry Bill). I figured there had to be a better way and I searched everywhere on "edit CSV files" with no luck, until i got smart and searched for "edit SQL files" and bingo, I found heaps costing big bucks. Refined search to include my favourite word "FREE" and wham reckon I found it. This program I found lets me connect direct from my desktop to the db on the server, and simply edit - add - delete items, entries or anything direct and updates it instantly live online! That sold me! I mean you click POST in the prog and refresh your website in your browser and its there! I use it here and here, and wouldn't leave home without it. I rarely use the admin backend now. It's called EMS SQL Manager for MySQL and I reckon it's brilliant. There is a LITE version that does nearly everything except BLOB files so you need to upload images by FTP, but the full ver appears to get around this so I'm going to buy it. No I am nothing to do with the product or the site, I simply saw 600,000 questions of despair about editing the catalog and figured that this solution might suit most people and maybe I'm luckier on Google heh. The LITE version works perfect for me, but be very careful with this prog cos you can edit everything in the db, and the POST buttons are very tiny so I recommend you RTFM and familiarize first. I been using it for a month now and no probs, and I even fixed a broken product to category link with it that admin couldn't ( result of power out). Took me 2 days to get the hang of it, so be careful and don't blindly nuke your db. Oh yeah the link is here and why these dudes don't advertise around the ecommerce sites has got me. And yes I know one of my sites is the c-word, but thats another story. Good luck.

And yes I know one of my sites is the c-word, but thats another story. Good luck. Sorry but the Moderators in their wisdom removed the link as they reckon it was advertising and not allowed, however all I found in the rules was this: <BEGIN> Commercial postings and linking to external sites providing osCommerce related products and services are not allowed on the osCommerce Community Support Forums. If you wish to present a commercial solution or service to the community please consider participating in the osCommerce Corporate Sponsorship program. <END> The product I listed is a SQL DB editor, NOT an osc addon or anything to do with osc, it's a MY-SQL editor. Secondly, like I said, the product is nothing to do with me (pretty obvious if you'd checked out the site) so theres no financial gain in it for me other than to help someone else's problems with something free that I found useful. I'm nothing to do with the providor, so it's not a commercial posting, and it's not an osc related product or service. I can't present it to the Corporate Sponsorship, cos I don't own it.......... One of us is not interpreting the rules correctly are they? Why complicate things more than they are.... oh well.
