Ian Lawther
I have just received a notice from my local state treasury regarding changes in the way they will collect sales tax from July 2008 and I am not certain how it can be applied to a regularly set up osCommerce store. At present I only have to charge sales tax within Washington state (where I am based) and I do this based on my address as the place of the sale. From next year I will have to charge the tax rate applicable to the buyers address. In this state each city levies a different sales tax made up of state, county and city amounts. They range from 7.2% to 8.9% but I don't think you can pin the exact amount to address items normally collected in osCommerce (like the state field currently triggering the tax for a Washington buyer). The tax zones don't conform to zip codes though it might be possible to link to town/city. The state treasury says this is to bring Washington into line with what many other states do. Are there other users out there who have had to tackle something like this in the past, or others in Washington state who have idea of how they will deal with it. Thanks, Ian
Guest
you can create tax zones with countries/states. Now there are also contributions for the counties. In fact you want counties not zip-codes as the zip code may span across different counties. Each state has an official site(s) for the various counties tax rates. Check one of the other contributions how they do it for Ohio of example and do it similarly for Washington
