Sts 4.5.2 Install Problem On Osc 2.2-ms2

First a little background:

While this is my first osC and STS install, I am no stranger to workging with php and doing mods. I've built (and administer) several php based forums. All are running on (shared) hosted linux servers with iPowerWeb and iX Web Hosting.

Here's what I've done:

1 - I have a site (jewelryandgiftsboutique.com), hosted at iX Web Hosting.

2 - I selected the option to install osCommerce, which installed ver 2.2-MS2 in:

"jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/admin" (for the osCommerce admin section)

and

"jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/catalog" (for the osCommerce catalog section)

3 - I downloaded and uncompressed STS 4.5.2 on my local PC and it's folder structure seems to be a bit different because "admin" is a subdir under "catalog".

"/catalog/admin"

and

"/catalog/includes"

4 - I copied the STS 4.5.2 "/catalog/includes" folder and it's contents to "jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/catalog" on my web server

and

I copied the STS 4.5.2 "/catalog/admin" folder and it's contents to "jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/" on my web server, which place it's contents in the "jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/admin" folder structure.

5 - Browsed to "http://jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/admin" got the osCommerce admin main menu, clicked on "Modules", clicked on "Modules" in the left hand menu and noted that there is no STS link.

6 - Reviewed the installation instructions again, saw no obvious issues, uninstalled osCommerce from the webserver, ensured the "jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/admin" and "jewelryandgiftsboutique.com/catalog" folders were deleted, reinstalled osCommerce and repeated. Same results.

My conclusion:

I must assume that my hosting provider's installation of osCommerce is such that the folder structure and /or file locations are different than what STS is configured to work with.

My question is:

What should I do next?

Thanks for your time, consideration and efforts!

Not only different with STS but with osCommerce as well. Your host seemed to think it was better to place the admin folder outside of the osCommerce catalog. I would ask them what the best way to install osC contributions that require changes to the admin folder since they are the ones who modified the original osC installation.

To help fix your problem, try uploading the files and folders from the STS contributions admin folder into your admin folder. Do the same for the STS include to your catalog/includes folder. Be sure not to actually copy the folder "catalog" since this is a ficticous name that represents the collection of osC files (admin & includes).

STS was structured to match the original osC file structure as are most contributions available on the osCommerce site.

Bill,

Thanks for replying so quickly! And... HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! (to you and any other dads out there)

Well, between my first post and your response, I found Vger's post about a "quick install guide" at

http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...162231&st=0

and given my assumption that my hosting provider's installation of osCommerce deviated from the original product, I decided to try Vger's instructions.

And the good news is. It worked!

BUT... a couple of points to take note of: :-"

1 - If you use WS FTP, be sure to disable "prompt when overwriting files" and disable "don't copy older files over newer files" or you will not get STS copied to you webhost properly.

2 - Go ahead and edit the two "compatibility.php" files and correct the "refresh bug" issue.

Now then... time to go back to searching for why the images are all missing from the catalog site (the admin site is fine). ;)

Cheers,

Dutch
