Problem Finding Administration Tool

hello. i have installed easyPHP, installed oscommerce and can view the site running off the computer. i have been able to change images but now i want to change the text. i know i have to use the administration tool but for some reason, that doesnt work because a file is missing (also the only way i can access it is at the end of the installation process).

i cant access folders from the weblocal window. only the .php pages in the catalog folder.

i have read the documentation and understand i have to set permisions priorities etc.

where exactly can i change these permisions? is it something to do with the database? im am confused i dont know what to do... :'(

sorry if this can be easily fixed, buti have no knowledge of databases or .php so all this is pretty overwhelming.

thanks.

You shouldn't use the File Manager to edit the page text anyway. Even the latest version doesn't work correctly.

Open the files in a plain text editor, like Notepad, Text Pad or Crimson Editor (not Word or Wordpad) and edit the files that way.

Take a backup of the file BEFORE you edit.

thanks for the quick reply. unfortunately that doesn't seem to work. the text has strange symbols and the lines of code are randomly placed in the document so i think theres an error when opening the file. maybe my notepad isn't setup right to read .php or something?

well i thin i sorted out the php reading problem thing. im using another program (php expert editor) to open and edit the php files and it seems to work.

what about my folder permision problem? i get a message at the top of the page saying

"Warning: I am able to write to the configuration file: c:/program files/easyphp1-7/www/catalog/includes/configure.php. This is a potential security risk - please set the right user permissions on this file."

where/how do i change the permissions?
