daz883 Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 hi all, i'm fairly new to oscommerce so bear with me here.......... i have two questions:- (1) basically when an account is created in my shop, the user enters his personal information (including his address). he can also add up to 5 address book entries and choose which one to designate as the shipping address. however when he comes to order some products, he is taken off to paypal to complete payment of the order because that is the only payment method we offer. this then asks you to (a) use a credit card to purchase the order or (B) login to your pay pal account and purchase the order via that account. however, what if the user has entered different shipping/billing addresses in my oscommerce shop to what they have entered in their paypal account - what happens then - which shipping/billing address takes preference - the one in oscommerce or the one in paypal? Is there a way to remove this duplication of information? (i am already aware that you can prefill paypal fields with what the user has entered in oscommerce but this surely would not work if they already have an existing paypal account with a shipping address already entered?) (2) i am using the standard paypal module that came packaged with oscommerce. after searching these forums for many hours some people suggest that you need to install paypal ipn and others say that you can just set 'auto-return' within paypal to counteract the lost orders problem. i have therefore gone for the easiest solution and set auto-return in paypal and it all seems to work fine to me. i do not understand the big deal about the paypal ipn module. why do you need it if all you have to do is set auto-return in paypal to counteract the problem - it just seems like a waste of time to me thanks
Guest Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 if you use the ipn it should take care of both issues. The 2nd in particular can happen with the stock paypal if the customer pays and then closes his browser in which case the autoreturn won't do anything. The only drawback with paypal ipn is because the order is pre-stored you may have multiple pending orders with your osc admin. Now I think some changes were made with the later ipn versions to address these issues so is worth trying it. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,2679
