Checkout Doesn't Work

Just downloaded and installed osCommerce 2 days ago. I've been doing fairly well with it for the most part. Got SSL installed earlier today. Seems to work as I'm no longer getting certificate errors.

Then I tried to enable the credit card option, followed by installing/enabling the paypal module. I have no idea if I was successful. How do I tell?

In any event, I tried a test run and attempted to checkout after adding an item to my cart. First I created a new account, logged in, added the item, tried to checkout, but it cycled around to the login screen. Obviously that's a problem. Anybody have any idea what the problem is with this thing?

Thank you

You can't check the paypal option yourself since paypal won't allow you to use your own account. You will need to find someone to run a test order (which you can then refund from paypal).

The login problem sounds like a session ID problem but it could be many things. Can you create an account without trying to purchase and then move around the site and still be logged in?

I assume the payment options show up on the check out page. Since I can't get there, I don't even know if the options are showing up, let alone testing them.

Well, it's hard to tell - I only have 1 product. At first I was going to say yes I can move around, because I can click on the product - but then I tried to go into the "write a review" section and it cycled back to the login screen. Then I tried to go into the "reviews" section, to READ reviews (there are none), and it didn't cycle back it just said there are no reviews for this product. I'm able to go into the My Account section. While I was testing, I went into my one and only category and it says "There are no products to list in this category." So that may be yet another problem, related or unrelated I have no idea.

Check it out if you like: www dot greengoldcapital dot com slash cart

Thank you most kindly.

looks that your checkout works, just placed a test order.

I did in fact see your order (by the way, why is there no email notification that an order was placed? For that matter, I don't get email notification when someone responds to my posts here. To the best of my knowledge, I do not have any email problems with my ISP or webhost. I get tons of spam so I know it's working.)

However, I still get the same results!!! I don't get it. Why can you place an order, but I can't? Wait... did you create an account and login? I assume you must have, because it forces me to the login screen if I try to checkout even if I'm not logged in. Ya, still puzzled over here.

Hmmm... what browser did you use? I'm using IE7.

More weirdness. It says you created the account on Jun 9. I think that's the day I installed it. So if I had to guess, I would guess that you used an account that was supplied as part of the system. I didn't know there was such an account. John Doe. Did you try to create a new account and test with that? I'm going to see if I can find the password for John Doe and attempt to checkout with that account.

yes John Doe is remarkable figure of the osC community. You can read his post btw

the osC Team should give the guy a blog :)

Well this just gets stranger. I logged in as John Doe, and I get the same results I've been getting - can't checkout. What in the world is going on?

Maybe something to do with your browser? Because I did checkout ok. Your paypal module is not setup to accept orders but the checkout goes all the way to paypal.

I found this thread: http://www.oscommerce.com/forums/index.php?sho...amp;hl=checkout which appears to be having a similar problem.

Based on that thread, and the fact that you can checkout, but I can't, PLUS the fact that my ISP and I had a discussion when I setup SSL regarding Cpanel and how it expects to use www as part of the hostname, I'm now thinking that there is a potential issue with cookies and/or how my paths are configured in ../includes/configure.php Could I be using the wrong cookie domain for HTTPS? I use my domain without the www. Should I be using my ISP's secure hostname instead? (See below for more explanation.) But if so... why does it work for you as is?

I'm on a shared host, that uses one IP address for all sites it's hosting, so in order to get SSL to work, I have to use my ISP's domain name as my HTTPS server. This may be confusing my browser in some way??? But, why doesn't it confuse yours? Again - what browser are you using please?

In the recent past, I had an issue with someone else's (totally unrelated) site, and they had me set or unset something somewhere in my browser. I'm reasonably sure it wasn't just clearing the cache. But, I cannot for the life of me remember what they had me do (which did in fact work for their site). Actually... I'm getting a vague recollection that they may have had me add their site as a trusted site in the privacy tab of IE7.

So, in any event... long story short... hopefully this gives you some ideas as to things I can check or do to fix this. My guess at this point is that I have to add either some form of my domain name (either with or without the www) or I have to add my ISP's domain to my list of allowed sites in my privacy tab or I have to change my path in configure.php

Since I"m still guessing, a definitive answer would be fabulous.

for your session settings in osc admin set them all to false except the prevent spider session and recreate session. Those set them to true.

And if you still having issues post your catalog\includes\configure.php minus the dbase sensitive info. I used IE6 for the checkout.

All of these settings started out false, I changed the 2 you mentioned to true. No change in my problem. So, I went into configure.php and changed HTTPS_COOKIE_DOMAIN to match the domain name I used for HTTPS_SERVER. Problem apparently solved.

What still bothers me though, is why it worked for you, but not for me. I suppose you probably have a lower security setting on your browser than I do.

Anyway, I was wondering if you or anyone has any recommendations on which of paypal's merchant services to use?

Thank you
