Just had installed OScom on hosting with register.com.. I am trying to get things organized however it continues to dump me off (timesout) and asks me to login again. There is not really any time consistency issue here. It can be 4 seconds, or 2 mins. .. It also does no care what task I am performing.

The hosting company states it is in the coding??? My web designer has left me with this mess. Can anyone give me an idea of what gives.

It never really has let me work for more than 5 mins? thanks for your efforts here. player

I actually just edited the .htaccess file in the admin folder....and created a .htpasswd file and I am having a similar problem. Everything is right (in the sense that when I try to access the admin, the prompt pops up). The only problem is I can never log in.

Is that similar to your problem player?

Here is my .htaccess code:

AuthName Restricted
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile /home/content/N/o/x/Noxwear/html/owner/.htpasswd
AuthGroupFile /dev/null
Require valid-user

I changed my admin folder to "owner" Then I created the .htpasswd which is the one line encrypted code. I am hosting through GoDaddy and using Linux.

Any ideas?

Player, perhaps you can view your .htaccess file and see if the problem is there.

If you are using .htaccess to protect your admin, it should not timeout. If you are using sme other contribution, you will need to say which one.

It does let me in and I can do somethings, but it to very often dumps me out. Like everytime after a very short period.

This is what the hosting company reports:

"Our technicians have concluded their testing and they have determined that it is a coding issue. They have determined that there are no issues with the server or the server maintaining PHP sessions. They have performed several tests and have come to the conclusion that it is a coding issue, most likely dealing with how the software saves it's sessions."

Even if it were a sessions time out issue, it would be consistent. But I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. Are you saying that if you go to your admin section, you are presented with an .htaccess generated dialog in which you need to enter your username and password. And then, at various times after using admin, saying viewing orders, it will require that you login again?

exactly Jack! I login as admin . I see everything on the left side. I click on lets say view orders and yes up pops my the login page.

Its not consistent in that some times I can see the info, however I am never working for more then 4 or 5 minutes(the longest amount of time) before it prompts again.Often, its almost on every click on the next step. Like view orders, i click it prompts for login and then sometimes it takes me to the orders and sometimes it just gets me back on with no change to view orders.

Oh, if this makes any difference... it only does this after I click on a task.. So if I just sit everything is still live and no prompt is generated.

The funny thing is that everything works great and it saves and performs all the changes, etc. but to load lets say a new item... 6 logins are needed over that span of time to complete.

Does that make sense? Thanks Jack

Having to login twice is not uncommon. If you have ssl enabled, you may need to login in again. But after that, you should be able to move around without having to log back in. The only thing I can think of that would cause that would be if you lost the session ID. And that would probably be caused by an incorrect configure file. So you could try posting your admin/includes/configure.php file here, without any sensitive data, so someone can take a look at it.
