Changing File Permissions

Hi folks,

I am new to this whole osCommerce thing.

If I am uploading files using frontpage to my godaddy hosting server, how do I change file permissions on specific files? Is this done through Frontpage or Godaddy?

If anyone can help, that would be great

Neither. It's through whichever ftp program that you are using, or if you are dragging and dropping from window to window, it is done there. In the main directory where your files are, right click on the file you want to change premissions, and go to properties. From there, you should see the CHMOD that will change the permissions. Choose either 777 to allow everyone to access that file, which is easier to handle, or use 644 which puts the power in the admin's (your's) hands only.

OK thank you...

I am not using an FTP program, but rather frontpage... Front Page 2003 has a window to window drop and drag (local to remote server)... I do not have front page infront of me right now, but when i do - it should be under the "properties" section when I right click a file?

Thanks again..

You need to be tight with security on your folders/ files.

Folders should be 755

Files should be 644

You really don't want just anyone to be able to upload and re-write your files so I don't recommend 777 at all.

cuteftp is free, or you should be able to change the permissions in the file manager in the host godaddy cpanel or similar.

Make sure you have the latest osc version security update 060817.
