Sorry for missing link in the previous post. This is our first store. We had to change a lot of the visual design. Any advice, critiques, or feedback would be greatly appreciate

Thank you!!

I think it's very sleek and sexy. But I think I might have found a typo right on the first page: "diamonds soured in Canada." Did you mean sourced?

I'm also not quite sold on the bright white background of the main body of the pages. I think a very light grey would make the jewelry stand out better and the white would look less glaring.

wow, we did mean sourced. I am glad you found that. A soured diamond does not sound very good. I'll try to light grey and see what it looks like. Thanks.

Fixed the typo. And I took a look at the light gray. I see what you mean. Unfortunately, our jewelry is photographed in a light box in white, it would be a pain to change the background colors of all our pieces to a matching gray. So, a note to anyone developing a site and reading this forum - try light gray, it works.

Nice concept.

A few suggestions. Right now you have these different pieces in different corners of your design. The diamond on the right bottom, the "top blood diamonds", the jewerly practice ... logo.. all these sort of take my eyes away from what should be the center of attention - things that you sell - your categories, your product names, your menu. Honestly... took me a few minutes to figure out where to click to go further.

Once I ind my way in and see the actual items... I love it.

Other then that... You may want to add this to your css file

HTML { overflow: scroll; }

It'll make sure your scrollbar is visible at all times - will prevent your content from jumping left to right every time you hit a larger page

Cheers,

George

I know what you mean. I wanted to have an introductory page that had a summary of our mission statement and a nice graphic that would allow for people who were using the education sections of our site to avoid the store. Odd, I know, but this site has two distinct goals, (1) to be a jewelry store and (2) to provide educational resources on gems, jewelry and the jewelry industry. Specifically, the environmental effects of the industry. I really wanted to have a "gateway" page. The graphic is tough. The main elements (the ones you mentioned + the ghost orchid and text) have been difficult to place in an attractive pattern. We are still working on it.

THANK YOU!!!!! I did not know about that little snippet of code and the jumping around was pissing me off. Thank you so very much.

You can start by separating your menu into two (or three sections) - products, education stuff, contact info

some ideas:

For the layout... move the orchid to the right.. make it larger .. move the slogan above it... put the logos under your menu...

some ideas:

just.. dont copy those ideas .. get inspired :)

REQUESTING A FAVOR:

We are going live today. So, I wonder if you guys might help me test the online customer service. I want to check up on the knowledge of the service rep answering the online calls. She should be able to answer any jewelry, diamond, gemstone etc... question you have. Would you guys mind taking a second to ask her a question and let me know if she responds to your satisfaction? It does not have to be about any of our pieces, it can be about the industry or jewelry, or a particular gemstone. Anything you want to know.

Thanks in advance.

Catherine

Great site Catherine, but the Live Support is offline at the moment for us to test.

Also, the ALT text needs changing on the support image.

Very impressed overall!

Phil,

Thanks for the compliment and for trying to go online. I should have mentioned that service does not log on until 7:00 AM U.S.A. Central time. There will be some breaks during the day of course. We have quite a few international clients, so we are going to try to be online until 7:00 P.M. or so on most days.

Thanks again!

No probs - will try again soon.

Did you do the site design yourself from the basic standard osc or use a template and modfy?

I did it myself from the standard. I found that it was fairly straightforward.

Hi

I love your site, and emailed you from it. I haven't had a reply though. Thought I should post here in case it is a problem with emails getting through to you from your site. (A BIG customer service problem!)
