cannazine Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Hi; My name is Ian and I'm just in the process of setting up my first oscommerce store. Everything has gone quite well just up until now but I've made a mistake and I cannot seem to fathom it out. Basically I've edited the index.php file withing the includes/languages/english/ directory, and when I have attempted to reload the page I receive the following error. "A file permissions error has occurred. Please check the permissions on the script and the directory it is in and try again." Try as I may (and I've been trying for 7 hours now) I cannot rectify this error. If someone could shed a little light I would be eternally grateful as my store is meant to go live today! I've tried the usual combinations of filer permissions right down to 401 but this error persists. Please help if you can! Thank you very much Ian
Jack_mcs Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 If you make a change to a file and the shop breaks, then it almost a certainty that the changes made to that file are the cause of the failure. Restore the file to its original condition and see what happens. Also, to verify it is that file, try going to another page, like www.yourdomain.com/privacy.php. cannazine Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 thank you Jack, for taking the time to answer. Ok now for the bit I didn't want to own up to...as it was only a "language file" edit, which can obviously do no "core damage" as its only a language file, so I didn't back it up prior to editing it, so I'm not sure how to return it to its previous form. I think the big issue is the permissions structure has lost its way a little due to me sort of stumbling to learn something before I actually do it. Of course, at 5:30am this morning, after 7 hours trying to "undo" what I did, heaven only knows what state all the permissions are in. Is there somewhere I can read what all of the catalog files should be CHMOD'd to? I don't mind if I have to do each file individually but I really need to be doing something to get the shop back up. At this stage none of my shop files will display, but the rest of the domain displays fine (http://cannazine.co.uk/shop) Thanks once again Jack Sincerest regards Ian
cannazine Posted June 7, 2007 Author Posted June 7, 2007 A file permissions error has occurred. Please check the permissions on the script and the directory it is in and try again. Is there anyway I can find out which script this message applies to? Is there such a thing as a schema or diagram so I can see what the individul file permissions should be changed to, or what they are by default perhaps? TIA Ian
Jack_mcs Posted June 8, 2007 Posted June 8, 2007 Language files are quite capable of bringing a shop to its knees so don't discount it as the problem. All files should be set to 644 unless they have a need to be something else. You can change them all to 644 and see if that fixes it.
