Usps Shipping

Does USPS specifically check the weight of the product? Say if I send a 10 ounce package saying it's 5, will it get returned. I've seen companies that ship from China say it's only 1 to get the cheapest price, even though its 1 pound+.

Anyone know about this?

All I know is I do my USPS shipping lables online from there website (I have an account, print them and stick them on the package. The one time I entered 0 lbs 7 oz when it whould have been 3 lbs 7 oz, USPS billed me for the differance.

I can only guess when the package barcode is scanned it's also weighed at the same time ind if it's off by some amount it auto corrects and bills you.

Makes me wonder if it were the other way around if they would credit you - have to ponder that one.

UPS will charge or credit you back for weight under/over estimates if you have an account. My statements include the weight which they weight it at and prices adjusted accordingly. If you don't have an account and you ship something pre-paid the receiver will be asked to pay the balance. If they don't pay the balance UPS will return it to the sender.

Anyone who tries to get over on UPS by understating the package weight is actually trying to perform a form of theft. Those of us who run legitimate business end up paying for losses due to theft through higher rates. I hope you're not asking this so you can gain an unfair advantage by doing something which is morally and legally wrong.

UPS is actually quite expensive from China. DHL usually has the best rates and seems to be the biggest shipper of small packages from China. The trick is to make sure the person shipping it for you selects the right service. I've had samples from factories come 2 day express when I was willing to wait a month or two for them. This ended up costing me a fortune due to the over eagerness of the factory. Be sure to make it clear and tell them multiple times which type of service to charge.

UPS is not the same as USPS. USPS is the United Postal Service. UPS is United Package Smashers. (ok I made the UPS one up).

I ship a lot if not the majority of my items with USPS, but I do weigh them correctly and input the correct weight when printing labels. However, i've never had a charge or reimbursement from USPS. I'm sure it gets weighed or something along the way, and now that you need to input the actual size of your box, i'm not sure how they'd control that.

UPS on the other hand will reimburse or charge your shipping account accordingly.
