beta Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Hi there, I woke up this morning to find that all products and categories in my database had disappeared. The website itself is still running fine as well as the admin panel I checked myphpadmin logs and there was 1 access to the database which I did not perform. The client denys doing anything on the admin panel (not that there is an option just to delete products and categories). The database was well below its size allocation and all images are still present on the ftp. Has anyone else experienced such an error? Many thanks, Mike
Jack_mcs Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 No, someone had happy fingers while you were sleeping it seems. :) If it were some glitch that caused the database to be corrupted, it would not just affect two tables that happen to be related. Jack With no option of the kind available through the CMS menu, that someone could only of been the server/database host you see (not myself) :( Possibly a hacker? Though the database is secure on a seperate server. Obviously my client isn't very happy with 2 weeks worth of work being lost now. Any ideas welcome, Mike

beta Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 Making a frequent backup costs only seconds. Restoring data manually costs hours if not days.... I do realise that, I don't remember if I showed him how to backup / if I did, I didn't say how often. Obviously it doesn't appear that anyone else has had this problem which worries me more. There isn't any sort of categories limit in oscommerce that I am aware of, correct me if I am wrong. Even if this was the case it doesn't explain why the database tables were cleared aswell. Stuck for ideas! Mike
Nullachtfuffzehn Posted June 6, 2007 Posted June 6, 2007 Tell him to backup daily! Also there is no limitation of categories other than your tablespace. I'm running all kinds of databases for years now and never had any issues like the one you've described. I also guess it was someone with a lucky hand. I've no other explanation.

Any ideas welcome, Mike What I was saying is that it is very unlikely, possibly impossible, for that to have happened in any way other than someone clicking on the delete button, several times. It could have been a hacker. In which case, you should be sure to change all logins. If no one will admit to doing it, when you will probably never find out what happened.
