Updating A Website Using The Same Oscom. Database

I am trying to update the look and structure of a website that uses osCommerce, i have created the new index.php and it works properly with the old system however i cannot figure out how to edit the interior product pages that use the ?cpath variable from the database.

 

I would like to use the same database and its paths but how do i go about getting the new look to house the old product images?

 

Also, just to add to the problem it is an older version of OS but the owner is fine with the way it works, would i be better off to start from scratch?

Is it posible to use an old version database with a new setup/install?
