Newbie With Some Questions On Starting Out...

hi there,

have just come across osCommerce. do I understand this correctly, osCommerce offers everything I need to set up an ecommerce site, but not the hosting of my site? and obviously I sort out bank accounts and such.

Does anyone have recommendations about hosting, or tips in this area?

Have there ever been any problems with OsC "going down" or crashing or something? or is that a delicate question to ask? :-"

oh, and with the credit card processing does this get done "in real time" , or do I have the option of doing it manually myself??

thank you so much,

mintpattie.

I'd recommend talking to a business advisor for business basics - they can help you with banking and merchant accounts for credit cards. But to start you could use paypal for accepting payments (unless you have 2 yrs of business banking account for references, you wont get a merchant account to process cc payments yourself). Hosting servers occasionaly "Go Down" but OSC should be ok unless you break something in the code....

There are loads of basic ecommerce books available in libraries which are really helpful.

I find this forum fantastic when I need help on OSc issues, so glad I choose OSc, its FANTASTIC, very flexible, can do anything it seems. BUt you need to be prepared to get into tinkering with the code.

best of luck with the new venture, great rewards will be yours as well as feelings of accomplishment with making a website.

I'm feeling lucky today......maybe someone will answer my post!

I do try and answer a simple post when I can just to give something back.
