Advice Sought On Accepting Payments

Recommended Posts

I'm setting up a site which has a store selling a small number of CDs. The store is http://meditation-and-mantra.com/shop

I haven't installed a payment gateway yet - don't really know what I'm doing in that regard and am looking for some tips.

Here's some background:

We'd like to accept payments via credit card or paypal.

Would prefer that customers don't have to create an account on our site - just provide payment info and shipping address (obviously if they're paying by paypal they'll need an account or create one).

We're on a shared host, so don't have full SSL (I guess).

The products will be shipped from Taiwan, but we're happy to be paid in USD.

The Merchant Services on the PayPal site looked like a suitable option, but that was the first thing I looked at and don't have any experience in this.

Any suggestions or links to info?

Thanks

You can set up a paypal account and use the built-in paypal module (although it should be updated) and it will allow you to accept payment via paypal and relatively minor costs. If you don't want account creation required, you will need to install the Purchase Without Account contribution.

I take it that only covers PayPal payments?

When I said we'd like to accept payments by credit card OR paypal, I was talking about the customers' options. We want to provide both.

Is there a Purchase Without Account way of handling credit cards?

I believe there is a way to do PWA and credit cards. You will need a gateway such as authorize.net to accept credit cards online. Shared hosting does allow for a SSL cert for your site you just need a dedicated IP for your domain name. I have several shared hosting clients who have their own SSL certs. You will need to check with your host to see if that is offered. I recommend using your own cert it looks more professional.

There is an option on paypal to allow the customer to proceed even if they don't have a paypal account. PWA doesn't care what payment modules are there. It does it work before that point.
