It depends on what sql file you are talking about. If you generate it with admin->Tools->Backup, then the answer is yes to both as long as the database is not too large to be handled that way. How large is too large depends on your server setup.

you have been very helpful in my attempt to become an online store owner.

I finally got a grasp of the problem I had. Maybe someone else here can benefit from this info...

I backed up only to my computer ....not good as i needed it and i couldn't get it to restore...

I thought it was over....

well anyways...i decided to try one last thing...up load it to the admin backup folder and wow it worked...

So if anyone downloads a backup to there computer and can not get it to restore from their computer...upload it

and the file shows up in the latest backups....
