Guest
Hi Peeps, I'm busy planning/ navigating my way to creating a kickin e-commerce site. But I'm new to this game and my background is primarily in Graphic Design for print - so you could say its been a steep learning curve! I've read about how to create html pages use css blah blah blah *basics basically. So I origially designed my site in Photoshop - and ill hand it over to my brother for coding for Os commerce. But I have some major concerns - I will need traffic, can the search engine spiders crawl my pages when they're in osc? This is going to be a question out of sheer ignorance - so please forgive me, but will my osc pages have the same html "tags" and those areas to add keywords/ h1 - standard on-page optimization etc? I've done a bit of reading in the forums and it seems like google dont dig osc pages - some people have even created html index pages that direct through to osc. Will I be better off doing the same? These SEO contributions, do they load into the admin panel so you can see wht you're doing if you aint a code-maestro? I plan on having my product pages include topic related links some will be informative others reciprocal. Do you think this is a good idea integrating my *reciprocal links in this way? As opposed to having seperate link pages. Is there a contrib to help me manage my links if I use the system mentioned above? I've taken a look at a peice of software called SEO elite, do you know if it'll work with OSC? Cheers, any help would be appreciated.

You need to invest some time learning what each module offers and how it works. In conjuction with osCommerce you can have a top class web-store. Header Tags will add H1 tags to your page but you can do that manually also. Just have to go through the code and add them where you want. I've done a bit of reading in the forums and it seems like google dont dig osc pages - some people have even created html index pages that direct through to osc. Will I be better off doing the same? I personally hate intro pages and usually leave the site unless there is a good reason for it such as "are you over 18"??? :-" These SEO contributions, do they load into the admin panel so you can see wht you're doing if you aint a code-maestro? They are all different, see Enigma's list and go through those. I plan on having my product pages include topic related links some will be informative others reciprocal. Do you think this is a good idea integrating my *reciprocal links in this way? As opposed to having seperate link pages. Is there a contrib to help me manage my links if I use the system mentioned above? I don't know much about link contributions. I've taken a look at a peice of software called SEO elite, do you know if it'll work with OSC? That is a seperate package. If you are talking about using it to manage links I am sure there is a contribution that will do virtually the same thing. SEO Elite might be better at helping you find those other sites to link ask for a link with, but then there is also something called Google for that which will do virtually the same job. I have it and I just use it to find out where I am ranked but even then I think there is a contribution that will do that also. SEO Elite would have to be integrated into osC to manage the links, therefore one of the contributions might be easier to manage them. SEO Elite would be better at finding the potential links. Choice is yours. SEO is a never ending process and there is no magic pill for it. Getting ranked highly is about setting up your site with proper tags, keywords, etc. and then promoting it (links, forum posts, articles, directories, etc.). There is no software or company that can do it better than you. You just have to keep putting the hours and hours into it. Great service and happy customers help also. :)

Thanks for the advice, I'll take a look at these options - its just like feeling your way in the dark when you learning something new, so this really helps me get an idea of how it all works. Thank you :)
Guest
Hiya Peter, I've read a few of your threads and taken a look at your blog. I'm glad to hear from you - Actually its good to hear from anyone who is experienced in this field. Really most of my questions come from complete ignorance and maybe even mis-interpretation of things I've read. So its great to get some facts. Thank you!
