Simple Invoice Module Available?

Not sure where to post this -- the Contributions section is a bit too specific.

Anyway, the sheer difficulties in configuring everything for different products going to different countries using different shipping, requiring different packaging estimation, is way too complex for the kind of business we have. Instead, I'd like to simply send an invoice to the customer when they submit their order.

Prior to sending the order, they'd need to reference an information sheet showing approximate shipping costs etc. and information about various kinds of payment options, but these would just be 'guides'.

I'd then send them an invoice with actual shipping costs included based on their preferences (and having added packaging costs for the products they've selected). I'd also give them the details for the different means of payment (PayPal, money order, bank transfer) -- much like some 'shops on eBay do.

Are there any modifications or modules that would facilitate some such setup? I know this is pushing a lot of the manual effort back on to the business, but this is the way we'd prefer to go for a variety of reasons.

Any help appreciated for this.

I simply solved a similar issue by altering the descriptions in the language files.

It now says that actuall shipment costs will be calculated and that the provided figure will never be the actuall shipment cost.

on one of my shops that counts for all invoices, on others I just give that message when the customer wants its products shipped out of the country.

Many thanks Jonathan. I appreciated your thoughts. That was enough to set me off on a path and a solution. Fantastic! Gary
