smellycat Posted May 31, 2007 Posted May 31, 2007 Hi, Ok, I've finally plucked up the courage to ask for comments on my site as you can see it's pretty stock in layout, i've tried so many different changes and still can't find anything i'm happy with :( I've tried centering and trying different colour schemes but to be honest I don't think it looks right when it's centred ? I know it looks pretty boring and dismal at the moment but I'd love to hear your comments and or suggestions on improving it. Also, the picture is pretty grainy compaired to my other pictures and I can't see to get it any clearer ? Thanks in advance .................................. *runs and hides*
Andrew Yuen Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I believe you have too many infoboxes on your site and it needs to be simplified. For instance, the language box is uncessary if you are only offering English as the site language. In addition, I would add a logo and sharpen the banner image, it looks all blurry (is this suppose to be part of the design?). Finally, I strongly oppose those page transitions as I find them to be very annoying. Also, consider installing SSL and changing your store buttons especially the quick find button that looks awkward within the quick find infobox. Andrew Yuen osCommerce, Community Team

Hi Andrew, Thank you very much for taking the time to view and comment on my site, it is very much appreciated :) I left the language box mainly as I am intending on hopefully selling worldwide eventually but that said, I could of course remove that for the time being I guess till then (if I can work out how to remove the box lol) The banner as been my major problem tbh, try as I might I've been unable to clear the damn thing up, I'm no techie as I'm sure you can tell from what limited stuff I've managed to do so far on my site. I finally managed to grab my daughter and bride her into sorting that out for me, so thats done now (it's easy to do when you know how  ) I tried out the page transition to see what it looks like (I thought it looked ok but then maybe i'm too girly and into silly quirky things lol) I can understand it could get irritating to some though and I don't see it all the time as I browse with firefox 99.9% of the time and it doesn't work in firefox. I'll seriously consider removing that :) I've seen mention of SSL on here and thats something I was going to look more at next, I have to admit I don't know what it is, what it entails and how to install it but I will make more effort to look further into this right away as it seems from what I've briefly read on here it's an important issue. I do like the blue buttons but I can see now what you mean about the one in quick find box, it does look a little bulky in there, I need to look at that and see if I can find an alternative or solution ? Thanks again for your input :)

Regarding the transitions, yes very annoying and I could not stand more than two! Mostly less is more.........
radders Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 I like it! Your four years of work have not been wasted. The blue background is a bit striking but shows off the jewellery well. I agree about the info boxes. What is a 'Discover Card' anyway? I've never come across anybody in the UK who has one so I wouldn't bother to advertise the fact that you accept them on your site.

Hi and thanks, I'll remove the language box now :) Forgive me if i'm wrong  but i'm assuming from your user name your a girl too and if you don't like the transition pages either then i'll get right onto it and remove it. Just gotta remember when and how I installed it now lol :-" :) Thanks for your help and comments, much appreciated :)

Hi David, It's been slow going but thoroughly enjoyable and quite honestly I couldn't have got this far without the help and advice from the members on here. I know not everyone will no who they are as i've been working away in the background quietly reading the forum and keeping a low profile but everything I've achieved as been through what I've seen and read on here. So big thanks to everyone  I'm thrilled you like the blue background, I tried so many different colours and kept coming back to that one. I think it looks quite nice that colour too :) You know ! I've no idea what a Discover card is lol, I put the paypal verified logo on my site and those cards where included, I didn't particularly like the large verified logo so I removed that but the cards stayed ? I've seen much better paypal and credit card logo's on other sites but has yet been unable to find them to put on my site and I'd feel a bit cheeky asking someone which contribution they used  so the search continues  Thanks for your comments :)
