pointcreative
hi there, we built an online shop using osCommerce in 2003 and have only just tried to add subcategories within the product listing. i can add main categories and put products within them, but when trying to add sub-categories (and products), it shows up on the back-end admin, but doesn't appear on the live side?? is there a glitch or is it something I'm doing wrong? thanks, mel

Guest
hmm.. to my knowledge there is no option to enable/disable subcategories. Are you expecting them to show up on the list to the left? They should only show up is you click on the main category that they're under, which will bring up a page listing all of the sub-categories in that category. Other than that I can't think of anything.

They should only show up is you click on the main category that they're under, which will bring up a page listing all of the sub-categories in that category. Other than that I can't think of anything. I'd be happy with it appearing anywhere! The site I'm referring to is www.venus-maternity.co.uk - it takes you immediately to the shopping page. On the backend admin, I have added a 'test' subcategory within the main 'Summer Style' category. On the live side, only products within the main category appear and I can't see any reference to the sub-category. Perhaps it's just a glitch with the version of os I'm using. Thanks for your help, and I'll get one of our programmers to add some code to enable the functionality. Cheers, mel
Guest
well you're using quite a modified template of oscommerce to display everything. Perhaps whilst changing the layout of the shop you accidently removed the code to display sub-categories
