eitai2001 Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Hi guys. Please can you guys go through my site and tell me what you think. www.digitaladdiction.co.za I want the most die hard critics out there as well, I need to be criticized to the max unless of course I don't need any criticism, which I highly doubt. I also need people to look at my site from different browsers and to tell me what does or doesn't work. I have seen a few javascript errors in the bottom left of i.e. but can't pinpoint where on the page they are. All help will be considered, please don't be shy. At the time of writing of this topic, I haven't included the points and referrals system, but I do plan to. Also, could someone give me some insight on how to add a horizontal line between the dyna menu categories and also on what the Head Tag Controllers contribution is all about and why I should get it. lastly, I'm not sure why google gives me a page rank of 0 ... I'm on quite a few websites, even on Sennheiser South Africa's website as a listed supplier. If anyone would like to contact me personally, my contact details are at www.digitaladdiction.co.za/contact_us.php I won't post my e-mail on this forum because of spam robots. but it is definately on the link above. All help is much appreciated Regards Itai Etzman
Andrew Yuen Posted June 3, 2007 Posted June 3, 2007 First, I have to say your site is very slow loading, I suggest some type of image thumbnail system. Second, I suggest you make your buttons match the rest of your site. Your site has a PR of 0 because there are no back links to your site according to Google even though your site is listed on Google. Finally, I suggest installing SSL. I have quite a few back links to my site ... but google doesn't pick them up ... thats what I don't understand. One example ... go to www.sennheiser.co.za, and click on where to buy and you will see me there right at the top. About this thumbnail program ... how does that work ... could you give me a better explanation? The buttons thing I know ... I haven't had the time to change them yet ... only near the end of June ... I assume you are talking about the stock osComerce buttons. Lastly, SSL ... it is way to expensive ... and would cost me more than I make, at least for now ... also, I will not be capturing credit card info on my site, but rather through a payment gateway when I allow the use of credit cards, so I don't think it is a problem for just traffic from South Africa and not the whole world ... do you? Thanks, Itai
eitai2001 Posted June 23, 2007 Author Posted June 23, 2007 Wow ... is no one gonna reply to my topic at all? I've even asked Andrew a few questions, and he never replied.

Thanks, Itai Thumbnail program creates real thumbnails for your products and stores them in a cache directory so every time someone hits your product listing they dont have to wait for each image to be resized and loaded and instead load the pre-sized image. Quality is much better, proportions are right, too I use http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...earch,thumbnail works like a charm You can get a turbo SSL certificate at godaddy.com for $15. Even though you dont capture any credit card info, you'll be storing other customer data. Plus, added security helps to keep the customer on your site.

I have already installed the GD Thumbnail thing, and it does help quite a bit. In terms of SSL, I'm going to be getting Rapid SSL because they are a root provider, and quite cheap as well. Would you know why google doesn't pick up and back-links to my site when I type site:www.digitaladdiction.co.za because I know I have quite a few. For example go to www.oneshop.co.za or www.sennheiser.co.za and I'm listed there ... it confuses me ... and because of it, I have a PR of 0. Regards Itai Etzman

From what I have personally noticed, the PR changes happen usually every two months. Your PR will not increase if you have just two sites linking to you. You need to have links relevant to your site (i.e links from a footballing fan site to a model aircraft shop would not be relevant (just an example)). Also, the PR of the site linking to you is important as is where that link appears on their page. Just because another site has a PR of 5 on its index does not mean you will get that benefit unless your link appears on their index page also. Most link pages will have a much lower PR overall. eitai2001 Posted June 24, 2007 Author Posted June 24, 2007 Ok cool, thanks ... so its just a matter of give it a bit of time, and get more well known. In the mean time, is there anyone out there that would like to comment on the actual design of the website, as I am planning to take it into its final design soon, and what some aspects from different people about what could be improved. But I already know about the stock standard osCommerce graphics, they will be removed with the final design. Also, any help with errors you might incur ... all information will be helpful. Thanks, Regards Itai Etzman
Guest Posted June 24, 2007 Posted June 24, 2007 Hello, I really like your design ideas and the colors, but the implementation needs some tweaking. (1) The top and bottom nav bars look to be influenced more by pink hues than orange - which looks a little off with the orange graphics. It might be my monitor but run it against your logo image in photoshop to make sure they are in the same family. (2) The blue Skype chat button and blue review stars completely clashes with your color scheme. Drop them for something that matches. (3) You are missing an image in the bottom nav (4) Make your heading title text the same orange as "Digital" in your logo graphic (5) Please, please, drop the oscommerce heading title images and buttons. They really do not look good. Use the style on the sign in button for all buttons on your site. (6) The rollover color for the rows in your product listing is too pink, make it a lighter version of the "digital" in your logo graphic. (7) Write a review image clashes with your site both in color scheme and in design. Your design is sleek, young and has a nice flow to it. The oscommerce images are images that I would expect to see on a corporate memo about a new coffee machine. Like I mentioned before, I do like your orange/olive color combination in the logo graphic; and what seems to be your overall design concept. Best, Catherine

Sorry for the late reply, tried to get it in sooner, but the forums were down. Thanks for the reply. I will take all these into account when I redesign the site. For number 3, the reason I am missing the image is because it is a rating site, and it gets the image from their server, and they have been down this weekend. For number 5, what do you mean the heading title images, I thought I already got rid of them ... where did you find more. For the buttons, when I redesign the site, I am going to have all the buttons redesigned to fit the main style of the site. For number 7, do you mean the button on the products page ... like I said earlier, all buttons (especially the stock oscommerce) ones are going to be redesigned ... I just haven't managed the time yet. For all your other comments, I will definately take them into account when I redesign the site. I don't suppose you (or anyone else reading this message) knows how to fix the problem with my specials on default and new products on main page where the height of each of the little blocks is different. I'm using the individual boxes contribution for them. Also, how does my website look in different resolutions, I have only really seen it in 1024 x 768 ... and how is the speed of the website, any ideas to make it quicker? Thanks Regards Itai Etzman
eitai2001 Posted June 26, 2007 Author Posted June 26, 2007 Hi. Could someone tell me the following: 1. How do I get the individual blocks on my main page displaying New Products and Specials to be the same size? 2. I currently use excel and access to add products to the website, because I added bulk items. The tables I am using are Products, Products Description, Products to Categories and Products Shipping (Individual Shipping Contribution). The last peoduct ID I have used is 595. However, when I try to add a product using either the admin section or osCommerce Product Manager (Open Source) ... it tries to create products using Product ID's from roughly 145 ... which obviously causes a conflict because there are already Product ID's in that range ... and I am at a loss as to why it is doing this. It overwrites any products with that number, but it confuses the database because now there is conflicting information. Is there another table I should be updating that tells the admin section and this program which the latest Product ID used was? It is a pain, because if I want to upload 1 or 2 products at a time, I still have to go through excel and access. Maybe the creators will be able to give me some insight? 3. In DynaMenu, is there a way to increase the height of each individual category link so that they aren't so small and compacted? Regards Itai Etzman
Dennis_gull Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I just looked at the site and think there is two things you need to change: 1) The original buttons from oscommerce is still there and they dont really look that good. 2) The menu have the border set to 1 without any color and it doesnt look that good. 3. In DynaMenu, is there a way to increase the height of each individual category link so that they aren't so small and compacted? Yes there is, if you look at the class in the css file you can write for example: line-height: 2em;

I will fix it up when the site is redesigned. 2) Which menu has the border set to 1 with no colour, I can't seem to find what you are talking about. Is there a way to rather place a background picture for the dynamenu sections rather than have a square? Regards Itai Etzman
eitai2001 Posted July 25, 2007 Author Posted July 25, 2007 Hi Guys. I managed to get the lines to be thicker, but how do I get the text to sit in the middle of each line, rather than at the top ... vertical-align=middle; doesn't work. Also, does any one know how I can add small horizontal rules between each category or line in dynamenu. Thanks Itai
smbrayton Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Hi, First of all SSL is lacking, i believe this has been said, second: this link does not work: If you find this item cheaper elsewhere, please click on this to fill out our form and we will attempt to beat any valid competitors prices! Third, i would move the add to cart button towards the top or make it much bigger, as it gets lost at the bottom with all the links at the bottom of the page. Your site loads so slow, and i am on DSL. IMO all that stuff at the bottom of the site takes away from the site.

I know that SSL is lacking, and I am just waiting for my hosting to get back to me with the key needed for the SSL. I am going to be testing RapidSSL. It is strange that the find items cheaper anywhere else thing doesn't work, because I receive those e-mails all the time. In terms of the button, the page is getting a redesign now, I am just waiting for it from my designer. I have realised that overseas my site loads rather slowly because of the fact the server is hosted locally, but in SA, it loads a lot quicker. In any case, this should me sorted out once I implement the new design. Regards Itai Etzman P.S. I am still hoping someone out there can tell me how to put seperation lines in between the categories of dynamenu, and how to centre the text when I make the category blocks thicker.
