Because you don't want to turn spiders into visitors.

Dear Enigma, first thank you for your replay and excuse me if i showed any ignorance or if i did not explain myself in the right way. what i wanted to say is that " if i have turned the force cookie option OFF , why i see Visitors or even spiders being directed to the page " cookie_usage.php " " and what should i do to stop visitors or spiders to be directed to this page ? thank you and best regards

Assuming your web-store works (adding items to the cart, checking out etc) then you leave it as is. Spiders have a different purpose. So for example if a spider attempts to "buy a product" it will be redirect to the cookie_usage.php page. You see if it doesn't, it means search results from search engines will have a session. And when real customers come to your store will have their carts/accounts mixed up. Not a good thing.

Thank you again Enigma , so according to your analysis , what are actually directed to the " cookie_usage.php " page are only spiders who try to follow the Buy a product link ? so my next questions : Is there a way to avoid this ? will this affect my Rank on search engines as spiders are got stuck on " cookie_usage.php " page ? Also i have actually experienced a huge drop in search engine ranking from google just after changing my website from pure HTML to Oscommerce. do you have any experience about this ? excuse my silly questions thank you and best regards

That will tell you if it's a spider. And there are whos online enhancements you could plug-in http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,824 It won't affect your rank because normally this happens when the spider attempts to use the buy now link or the login link, things like that. So a redirect is issued. You should expect a drop in PR because moving from one set of links to another spiders do not know the new links, while the old ones by default give out 404 errors. There are contributions for SEO you check and see which ones suit your store better.
