hi i hope you can help me, just purchased some webspace and it says taht it doesnt support chmod 777, it stated that chmod 755 is the same and that the servers dont support chmod 777. the problem i have is that after looking through the installation settings for oscommerce, it says that the setting must be set to chmod 777

 

so im not sure what to do can anyone help

so even if i set my permissons on the configure files and the htaccess file to chmod 755 it shouldnt make a difference then ??

 

is that right

The 7 connotes read/write/execute permissions

The 5 means read/execute

The three numbers are, in succession, User/Group/World

 

How you set them depends on your server setup.

I set my config files 644 ( read/write - read -read )

 

But it's up to you.

i strange really so i enable the global thingy in my htaccess change htaccess to 755 and both the configures to 755 and it should work, there is one thing ive noticed though the webhost (www.4uhosting.co.uk) is using php version 4 not version 5 would this make a differance

????

cool so all i have to do then is change htaccess to chmod 755 and enable globals, and change but configure.php to chmod 755 and it should install is that correct ????.
