jfung Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Hi, when I type in my domain name on google search it show my site on the search result but it has the title OScommerce. Is this something I can change easily or I already have my title change to my shop's name. Can someone let me know how to solve the problem? Thankyou
Guest Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Hi jfung, I think you need to go to into your Store Administration Panel - Store Name. Then, change the default "oscommerce" name to whatever you want. Regards David ps. Of couse this will take time to propagate on Google!

Otherwise, you can just change the name in includes/languages/english.php. Is this the 2 things I have to change? Thankyou for replying

Thankyou for replyingI don't understand what you mean by "Is this the 2 things I have to change?" The changes you made are the same. If you have the latest oscommerce version installed, it uses the Store Name from the database. If you don't, you have to edit the file manually. But what you have accomplished is to give all of your pages one title. Since the title is the first thing the search engines see when entering your site and is what they first use to differentiate pages, you haven't really made any progress. Once your site as been up for a while and the search engines have had time to scan it, you will find that there will be, easily, over a 1,000 pages listed and they will all have the same title. Not good. Not good. Jack Thank for the reply Jack. Ok, I think I have confused people a bit. I changed the storename in include/language/english.php to what i wanted it to be. So essentially it's the same changing it in the Admin page. I understand that. All I want to do is when Google come back with a search result when i type my domain name in the search field. I want the results to say the "Storename" I put in and description at the bottom , Not a big OScommerce as my title and description at the bottom. Thank you. Tell me if I don't make any sense because I am still new in oscommerce.

dropdeadred Posted May 23, 2007 Posted May 23, 2007 If the correct name is appearing on your browser window, then you have successfully changed it. It's likely you'll have to wait for the spiders/bots to catch up. They don't index instantly.

I am not trying to give you a hard time but it is a serious problem if you want your site to do well in the listings. If left alone now, you may well be back in six months wanting to know why your site is not bringing in customers (it's a common question here on the forums). This will be the main reason why.
