Creating A Filter, Similar To Manufacturer Dropdown

I have some new fields added to the product table, using the contribution New Fields with Easy Populate [http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,1717].

 

I would like a dropdown menu, just like the one for manufacturers, on the product listing page to filter results. Is anyone familiar with how the manufacturer dropdown works?

 

I was hoping to use the contribution Sort Products By Dropdown [http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions,4312] and modify it, but upon deeper look at this contribution, I may not be able to do that.
