How to edit front page

Will anyone help.......I would like to have one big picture on my store front with the menu on the left side but don`t know how....Please help.

 

Also my product pictures look distorted, how can I change the image size so the length does not look distorted.

Changing the way the site looks is not a simple process. It is not difficult once you know how but can be very difficult for those new to it. You might want to take a look at this thread. Or installing the STS contribution is an easy way to make such changes.

 

For the image problem, go to admin->Configuration->Images and set the Small Image Height to empty (no entry). That might help. If not, you may need to install one of the image thumbnail contributions.
