Try to log into admin and receive mysql error

I recently put an .htpasswd setup with my admin folder and tried it out and it worked fine. Then I went back a little while later and now I receive this error:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/usr/local/mysql-5.0/data/mysql.sock' (2) in /--MYPATH--/html/osCommerce/catalog/admin/includes/functions/database.php on line 19
Unable to connect to database server!

I took out the password reference in the .htaccess and receive the same problem.

Any ideas? Thanks.
