How do I allow customer to enter text for personalized products?

We offer personalized license plate frames and we ask the customer to input what they want said on their license plate frames. I don't see a field in oscommerce to do this. Anybody know? :blink: :blink:

Sorry, previous post was inadvertently truncated. I use the comments field during the checkout process as the customizations are part of the price. I just changed the text that appears above the box telling people that this is the place to enter personalization info. I give an example format as well to make sure that they don't miss something.

Jack, what would be the mechanics of installing the option type contribution? Should I go to the file manager in my tools page online and edit the appropriate file? I looked at the files and found what I thought was the appropriate "option" file and attempted to cut and paste the files to no avail. Got error message and had to remove paste from file. Excuse my gross inexperience, but could you help again?

There are instal instructions with the contribution. Using the file manager to install a contribution would be a difficult way to do it. And unless you have the latest oscommerce patch installed, the file manager is broken and should not be used. Most people us an ftp program and a php editor to make such changes. It is a lot easier once you get used to it.
