Help ! Can my search engine only display categories and sub-categories ?

Hello,

I have three levels of categories on my Web store.

I would like my search engine to search through all the levels of categories but to display only the categories and the sub-categories in the categories drop-down menu. This means I do not want my third level of categories to appear in the search engine.

Is there any way I can do that ? It is complicated to explain why but it is really important for me that only the two firts levels appear in the search engine.
