ramstainedglass
Please help. Today, for the fourth time, I had to totally scrap my store and start over. This is getting really old as it represents about a month's worth of work. My problem is that my web host has the first release of oscommerce. They have not updated it at all to reflect changes that were made in the second milestone release, but they have done some security measures of their own. Then, when I tried to update my files with the second milestone changes, I got every kind of error possible. I am not a programmer and scrapping things and starting over is getting old. They offer support for oscommerce, but they do not encourage me to modify my files and then have them help me figure out what went wrong. I hate to put so much work into an already obsolete version. SOOOOOOOOOOOO I can upload the current version to their server, but I need to know if all of the bugs have been worked out of the latest version or if I will still get all kinds of errors and have to fix them. I will not have my web host's support if I do this and this forum will be my only help. WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
bobg7
Use the current version from here, all the known issues have been addressed as far as I know. Installed Contributions: CCGV, Close Popup, Dynamic Meta Tags, Easy Populate, Froogle Data Feeder, Google Position, Infobox Header Entire Row, Live Support for OSC, PayPal Seal with CC images, Report_m Sales, Shop by Price Revised, SQL Updater, Who's Online Enhancement, Footer, GNA EP Assistant and still going. ramstainedglass
Well, I did download the latest version of oscommerce and then uploaded it to my web host site. Then I realized that when catalog is out there in their server that I do not have a link to an executable file to open it and run it. So, I guess I will have to host my own server (windows) to develop the store then upload the completed store there, or use their outdated file. Any further comments? I would use IIS, which I installed a couple of weeks ago and I thought I had really damaged my computer, so I uninstalled it again. Can anybody tell me what kind of text editor I would need to do this? Or does IIS have its own editor?

dropdeadred
I do not have a link to an executable file to open it and run it Do you mean you don't have mysql access? If that's the case then you can develop locally just fine but will run into the same problem when you come to upload the new one. I suggest asking your provider for access, asking them to get OSC updated on their server, or switching hosts if you want to be able to update to new builds at all in future. Of course if I misidentified your problem, that's all nonsense. :)

Would Mysql be the executable file for cartxpress on their server????? I thought Mysql was a table database only.
dropdeadred
I really have no idea what executable file you might be talking about. Oscommerce installation involves no .exe files. If you are talking about installing php/mysql/apache then that's a whole other ball game.
