Amended module values not being saved - help!

Hi,

 

Every time I try to change a value in a payment module (or a shipping module for that matter) through the admin interface and click "update", my changes are lost.

 

No error message, no suggestion anything might have gone wrong, the changes just don't go in.

 

Adding / changing things in the catalog is fine.

 

Really quite baffled. It's worked fine before.

 

ANY suggestions very gratefully received.

I had tried using the forum search, but that was useless. Will remember to use Google first next time.
