Powweb Installation Process

Recommended Posts

I have been advised by a rep a powweb that osCommerce is one of the better solutions - in checking out information on the site - looks really good.

I am trying to install using Powwebs "Install Central" - only options asked are database to be used AND domain name. I have several domains 'forwarded' to my webspace and the initial one when the account was setup - ALL domains appear in the "available domains list".

Questions:

- Can anyone provide guidelines for the best domain to install under?

- Does it matter which one I install under and does it effect what the customer sees?

- Are there any quick start resources that are light on details and heavier on the meat of the idea?

Thanks in advance for replies...

OK...here is how you do it:

First some notes:

The only success that could be had was to install into my initial/registered domain on Powweb - I assume that their installer is looking to 'pre-configure' the osCommerce application to work in their default "home" directory, so it works installed here - but if you have subdirectories for the sites hosted that are using forwarders it craps the bed on ya.

1) When prompted for the "domain" to install the osCommerce cart to - choose one of your 'registered' domains - note that it is possible to add additional domains that you own and they will show on the list - but the 'physical path' completely different - it will show (in my case) your 1st registered domain.

2) Using Powweb's "FileManager" move the entire installation directory (again in my case) into the subdirectory beneath your "home/htdocs" directory.

3) You will then need to edit both of your configure.php files adding your subdirectory in front of every where that the installation directory is referenced. Example: '/catalog/' becomes '/yourdirectory/catalog/'

4) Test it out... yer done!!

The only issue that I have to figure out yet is when a visitor clicks on "TOP" while on the catalog page - this will take them to your 'root domain'

I'll follow-up with myself if I figure it out...
