Ken44
Hi This is my post here after installing osC2.2 a few days ago. I have managed to import my database of products and all is looking good so far. My main concern is the Admin. I am using free web space to see how thing go. However my host forbids the use of passwords on free space which means (I think) that I may not use .htaccess to password protect Admin. My host also forbids the use of zip files so I cannot password protect with admin_login_1_2. (Unless there are instructions for installing this without uploading the zip file?) I am hoping someone may have instructions for installing admin_login_1_2 manually or a suggestion of another method to password protect Admin. Thanks. Ken. Guest
Simply put, dont use free web hosts. If you want to really create a store which you will be depending on for a source of your income, do you really want to rely on whatever restrictions a free host may put on you? It might be wise to go ahead and signup for a paid hosting account with a LOT less restrictions. They're really not that expensive. Then, you will be able to add an .htaccess file to your admin folder and password protect it.
Ken44
Hi John Thanks for your quick reply. I do agree that free web space has disadvantages, however my 'shop' is only a small part of my site (at present) and I am not expecting a lot of income from it. The rest of my site (mainly a gallery and tutorials) is working fine on free web space. I was just concerned about the security of Admin. I have unzipped admin_login_1_2 onto my PC so I know the locations of the files. I may have a go at a manual install. Thanks. Ken.
