Subcategory Dilemma

Hello, os commerce gurus, I have a question regarding subcategories. For some reason we are seeing a subcategory box not showing up under the product listing page for a product. Just get new arrivals content followed by the product listing. This is the center top nav I am referring to. The left linking is not showing as properly as well. I was wondering where this addressed in the os commerce source or if it is a combination of some configuration that needs to be done on the database side. I have seen some similar discussions regarding this but there doesnt seem to be a definite answer.
