complete newbie cannot install from scratch

Hi guys, I was wondering if any of you have experience with installing oscommerce?

 

Ive created a domain and have webspace, bought a template and looked through the utility of installation but it doesnt work.

 

Im using an ftp (cuteftp) and have ttransfered the folder (now renamed shop) to my director of (root)/web/content/shop

 

(nb the folders web and content cannot be edited and file/folders cannot be stored in / just /web/content/ )

 

anyway, the opened browser, and typed:

 

www.fabulousface.co.uk/web/content/shop/install/

 

no page loads

 

I type:

 

 

www.fabulousface.co.uk/web/content/shop/install/install.php

 

and a message appears saying "no input file specified"

 

any ideas out there??

I think you mixed up your www root and your domain root.

could you explain that please? The webspace (pipex) was bought along with the domain name (fabulousface.co.uk), Ive connected to the ftp of the space on pipex, isnt this correct?

ok ive downloaded oscommerce and placed "catalog" dir in <root>/web/content

 

then typed

 

www.fabulousface.co.uk/web/content/catalog/install

 

same prob happens

 

typing:

 

www.fabulousface.co.uk/web/content/catalog/install/install.php

 

same prob happens again "no input file specified"

Still think you are uploading to a wrong location since the directories don't exist on the server. If you would pm me ftp access i could have a look.

You also may want to check with your host. Many hosts offer shopping cart installs from the cpanel...I had the same trouble and was able to get it to install from there
