Are You Running Oscommerce On A Home Server?

Appologies if this is in the wrong section.

Has or is anyone running an Oscommerce install from a web server at home.

I have a spare pc, static ip address and my dsl is 13 meg down and 1meg up speed.

Obviously operation and security of the server is critical and all this is something I know nothing of.

If you have done this can you post how your site performs etc including machine and connection specs, I am aware that if the server goes down then the site will aswell thats why i'm trying to discover all pitfals before attempting it.

Most importantly can someone write a step by step guide including how to setup the machine, what needs to be running on a windows xp machine and what doesn't.

What antivirus and firewall and how to setup to protect a server.

What version of apache, mysql, php, zend to install inc links. What order to install them and how best to set them up to maintain maximum security.

Which dns services to use and how to set it up, obviously I will contact the company I purchased my domain name from to update the nameservers.

And anything else I have forgotten.

Thanks guys. This would be of great help to me and I suspect maybe others provided the server can be as secure as possible.

Bite the bullet, and get your site hosted on the web. Testing on your home pc is ok.

I already have my site hosted externally. I was just curious to see if anyone else is doing this as I have a good reliable internet connection and a spare pc which I could setup as a server.
