Help! Newsletter drama

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have just finished my first newsletter, looks great in the newsletter preview, in fact looked so good I emailed it out to all my clients.

As I am registered I got my own newsletter, all it is is the html text in a big block, totally unreadable, here it is:

<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" style="width: 541px; height: 502px"><tbody><tr valign="top" style="background-image: url('../images/theme/news_underline.jpg')"><td style="width: 1000px; height: 57px"> <img src="../images/theme/bubble_logo5.jpg" border="0" alt=" " width="177" height="59" align="top" /></td></tr><tr><td style="width: 1000px; height: 57px"><p align="right"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="1">May 2007 - Dictate Australia - News</font></p><p><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="2" color="#d6499c"><strong>Olympus Release New Models</strong></font></p><p align="justify"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif" size="2">Olympus have released a new range of digital voice recorders to replace some of the older models, like the DS-2 and DS-2200. Instead of looking like the nice newsletter preview :-(

Please, anyone got any ideas why this would happen ? Off now to send the apology emails ...

Thanks

Dave.

OK

I got the HTML working ...

I changed the following in ./admin/includes/modules/newsletters/newsletter.php

From:

$mimemessage->add_text($this->content);

To:

$mimemessage->add_html($this->content);

BUT although that now makes my emails more readable the graphics do not show !!

When I look at the graphic properties in my received email I have relative links for the location of the graphics files, eg:

./images/theme/logo.jpg

When what I really need is:

http://www.mydomain.com/images/theme/logo.jpg

HELP ! again ... :-)

You need to use the absolute url for the images e.g: http://www.mydomain.com/images/theme/logo.jpg as opposed to /images/theme/logo.jpg. This tells the recipients email client what directory of what server to look in for the images. In your message the email client knows what directory to look in but not what server.

You should edit your email, change all the urls from relatative to absolute then send yourself a copy before sending it out to your customers.

Hey thanks for that, but unfortunatly it was buried deep in the tinyMCE code. Luckily I found an easy way to force tinyMCE to use absolute instead of relative for newsletters URLS.

in the ./admin/newsletters.php file I added the following into the tinyMCE.init section:

convert_urls : "false"

and that did the trick :-)
