lonestardolls
Hi, first of all these forums are fabulous. I have no background or education in web site development, but with the superior NetFirms customer support, and the outstanding people on Oscommerce forums, I have succeeded far beyond what I believed myself capable. I have stopped working on the visual aspects of my first ever attempt at an online store because of one problem. I'd love to hear any and all feedback from anyone else especially if you have had the same problem and how you overcame it. About 50% of my customers do not receive registration confirmation, order confirmation, or a new password when they use the Forgotten Password link. The 50% customers who do receive those server generated mailings are those with with gmail or yahoo addresses. AOL, sbcglobal and other regional email clients do not receive that mail. I have done testing and have determined it is not always due to spam filters or firewalls, it may be in some cases, not all. Therefore, I believe that during my initial setup and installation of Oscommerce I must have screwed something up, moved a file or something. This could have happened when I was first using Filezilla and could have easily deleted or moved a file with no idea of what was happening. I have run out of ideas of where to look for the problem, I am ready to make the site look better, it is functioning with orders coming as it is, but I am ready to seriously work on the finer details with suggestions received here on the forums. I want to advertise the site in June, and I'm ready to really run with it. I feel that this server generated mail problem needs to be solved first. Also, I would like feedback on using the newsletter manager. I tried it once, and waited more than 10 minutes before stopping it, and I was only sending a few brief paragraphs, no images, no graphics, no attachments to just 5 people. The first person on the list received it, but no one else did probably because I couldn't wait any longer for it to send. Many thanks to all who have already attempted to help me, and have helped. Deep thanks to all the people who post their new ideas, how-to's etc. I couldn't have done what I've done without you. www.lonestardolls.com Dale
Rachael w.
I normally dont critique others stores, but here I am today with some time on my hands. Your header is bigger than your site. Who is Netfirms Commerce Pro and why is it on the tab when I go to your site? Got to dnsreport.com and run your website. I can see several reasons why your emails arent going through. You have nice inventory and your images are nice, try to work on the layout of the site a little more and you've got great potential there. Hope that wasnt too harsh
lonestardolls
Hey, I love the critique!!! I need all the help I can get. My web host is NetFirms (great customer support by the way). I have TONS and TONS of tweaking to do. And thank you for the complement also. The best news though is that I found the answer to my problem. After searching several hours on the forum last night, I found a link to what solved my problem. I just tested it and it works. It is in the contributions area,: AOL send email problem fix I copied and pasted, and bingo it's working! So now I can go in and fix the header and all all the other things I want to do. I'm so excited!!!!!!!! OSCOMMERCE ROCKS! Dale I normally dont critique others stores, but here I am today with some time on my hands. Your header is bigger than your site. usernamenone
Loose the: Welcome Guest! Would you like to log yourself in? Or would you prefer to create an account? Then cruse through the template contributions and see if there is something in there that you could live with. The stock osc is just a starter look and although very functionable it realy isn't very attractive for a site selling Dolls. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contributions/category,8 Change the title of your site. You are not netfirms oscommerce pro, and install a meta tag contrib. http://www.oscommerce.com/community?contri...mp;category=all
lonestardolls
Thank you for your suggestions. I need some help , actually I need tons of help, and yours is sincerely appreciated. I've been searching on the site for info on 'losing the welcome guest line' and have seen several suggestions that I would like to do at a later date, but I can't seem to find the simple question answered "How do I lose it the welcome guest etc etc?" I would like to browse through templates, but I don't understand how to browse through them, it looks like they all have to be downloaded to see how they look. And lastly, I'm not sure if I did it or not, but I think I got the title my site changed, but I don't know about metal tags yet. lonestardolls.com Loose the: Welcome Guest! usernamenone
1. Open catalog/includes/languages/english.php You will make it look like this: define('TEXT_GREETING_PERSONAL', ''); 2. browse through templates. Yes, you have to download to see what they look like but having info on color should help eleminate some. Thank you for your suggestions. lonestardolls
Thank you so much. It's a hassle to type out directions as you did, but it so greatly appreciated. 1. For a fast store face lift download this color picker, it is free http://www.nattyware.com/pixie.html Next download this contrib and with pixie you can locate colors and then change them in the style sheet. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/contri...y/search,111561 When you get to the rounded corners if you don't know how to change them just let me know and I will help.
