Setting a default page for Newbie users

This is a total newbie question I am sure but I couldnt find a definitive answer in my searches. Sorry..

MY site opens to the "Catalog" page. This includes the standard text and a list of things to do check, edit and so on. How do I change this page open to the main products of the store.

Do I turn this text off or edit it out. I dont want users coming here first or even having acess to it. I couldnt find any place to set a default or opening page.

Additionally,

Where can I edit the "Sign In"...I am a new customer " Message I'd like to customize that.

Thanks

Brett

Yes I see that in the instructions on that page but...

What am I editting it too? I just want customers to see the listed products.

For example:

I have one category - Lessons

Thats all I'll ever have and there is already a front end to the site made in joomla. I'm using oscommerce as the backend of the online lessons.

I'd prefer they all come to the register or login pages and not even have access to the catalog page.

To see what I mean go to>> www.russmodernbass.net...then click online lessons. Its pointed to the "Lessons" category but I dont want them to be able to back into the "catalog" page. Dont know what I would even use the catalog page for.
