A maybe stupid question

Hi, I am new to oscommerce. Regarding the back up, please tell me whether I am doing the right thing by:

1. I go to administration - tools - Select Database Backup. This is how to back up database.

2. I use a ftp software and download all the files under public_html to my hard drive. Whenever I made some code changes, I will download them to hard drive.

So if something weird happened to the store, is it OK to restore my store by:

1. Reinstall OS commerce

2. Upload all the files in my hard drive to public_html folder

3. Restore database

Thank you.

Yes, you are 100% absolutely correct! ^_^

Ok, except I would make the change on my pc then upload to the web.

If your database is too large (around 5 MB or so but it varies with the host), you won't be able to use the admin option to save it. Also, if something happened that corrupted your site so it wouldn't load, you won't be able to get into admin to do the restore. For those cases, you should be familiar with your control panel options since they will always work.

Thank you Jack. This is a good point. I will play with the Control Panel and find the correct way of doing so.
