Brunswick
On several posts I've seen a reference to the "correct" version of PHP. It seems the current version of osCommerce prefers version 4 of PHP. I've been using my local (Apache 2.2) server along with the MySQL server and PHP to build (customize) and test an osCommerce site. Other than some minor issues, it has worked quite well. I installed the [apache/mysql/php] components on my Windows XP Home system individually (instead of as a package such as XAMPP) using the downloads from the various sites. I wanted to learn how to do this properly. In light of the comments about PHP versions, I thought I would check the version number of my PHP. It is PHP Version 5.0.4. To install version 4, I think I would have to go back to the PHP site and download and install it. Anyway, my question is how critical is using version 4 instead of 5, also when I install this on a live server will I have to stipulate version 4? What sort of problems occur because of the "wrong" version? Just wondering. :) -Hank
♥FWR Media
Well apache 2.2 means you are using php 5X and I for one can't be bothered altering my highly modded osC to meet the requirements. If you take it a step further and attempt the far stricter mySQL 5 then there are more problems still. My opinion is that PHP5 has lots of benefits. I develop on 5.2.1 atm and mySQL5 in strict mode. However I leave PHP5X and mySQL 5X to development only due to incompatibility (or call it sub standard scripts currently used). Just my opinion. Guest
Its not such a big deal to convert (even highly modded stores) to PHP5 compatibility Sonia

Skeetergirl
Ahem... getting back to my question...What problems? What modifications? Etc. etc. -Hank :) I am moving my site to a private server and was having problems with my Oscommerce store, so I decided to do a new install and can't even do that. It gets stuck at stage 2. What do I need to do to get my old store working? I sure hate to have to change now with all the mods I've made in the last 1 1/2 years.

Skeetergirl
Anybody? :) -Hank I used php_value register_globals 1 and php_value register_long_arrays 1 in the .htcaccess file in includes and Admin includes and it worked.
