CHMOD and .htaccess

Hi,

After reading about security I just want to check that my security is OK.

Firstly is there a list of what the CHMOD of the files should be in your store?

Secondly the .htaccess file you download with oscommerce is that all you need? What does it do? I can create a .htaccess file in the control panel of my hosting. Do I need to do this instead? If I was going to create one with my cpanel what folders do I need to protect?

I really need a complete guide for dummies as I'm not sure what I am looking for. The site was set up for me and I want to check that what was created is 100% OK for security. I just need the information so I can check what is done to know it is correct.

Thanks

Geek,

.htaccess is a security that is supplied by apache server...Any dir you have .htaccess in will

prompt you for a userid and password...Yes set it up using cpanel.

Chmod...need to set your programs to read only...some like tmp where you are going to I/O

need to set to read/write access only 755 will set for read only...If you google linux chmod

you should get the chmod codes...

Also I would rename the admin to something else...and of course update the admin/include/configure.php name to the new name...Then no one will know how to get to your admin side except you and anyone you tell...

I hope this helps
