Ultimate SEO URLs playing hard to get

Hello All,

Does anyone know the reason why (having installed Ultimate SEO version 2.1d) that no internal product links are working on my site (400 error). Then, when I disable SEOs in my admin control panel, all's well again?

My Admin directory has a .htaccess file in it but my Admin directory is not inside the catalog directory, so I have uploaded the .htaccess that came with the Ultimate SEO install to my catalog directory. Could that be the problem?

I read the comments in the .htaccess about configuring Apache. When I stopped crying, I decided to ignore the advice to mess with something else I don't understand in case I broke that as well.

Any advice, patronising or otherwise, much appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul

You can't just upload the .htaccess file. The instructions explain that you have to set the path in it. It sounds like you didn't do that.

But surely the only path I need to edit is RewriteBase /catalog/ and if the .htaccess file is in the catalog dirctory. Isn't that correct? Sorry for my dimness !

Thanks Jack

You have to follow the instructions, from memory it involves adding some info to your .htacess in your catalog directory but this depends on what kind of hosting you have.

Its better for you to find the support thread, get a nice drink and start from the first page and read it all.... chances are someone else has had the same problems and theres advice to follow.

Good luck

Yes, it is correct (as long as your shop is in the catalog directory, of course). It might be that your host does not have mod_rewrite enabled. You should check with them. And there is always the possiblity that the contribution is not installed correctly.
