"pending" how to troubleshoot?

I have a client that has orders that suddenly stopped getting past the pending status from lets say 57 and on - I was wondering what changes a pending state to a completed state? They use authorize.net and sell clothing. The orders do not ultimately show up in their paypal account as they are supposed to. Are there some troubleshooting steps I can take? Is their a doc I can be looking at? Thanks very much for your help.

I'm confused. If they use authorize.net, why would they show up in the paypal account? In answer to your question, the checkout process sets the status of the order as returned from the module. If it was working before and isn't now, a simple Remove and Install of the module may be all that is needed.

It is authorize.net not paypal my client confused me - thanks I will give your suggestion a try.
