Hi there,

I am a student at BreamBay College in New Zealand.

I Have just received a new oscommerce template which I have saved to my computer..

Now HOW DO I INSTALL IT ONTO MY WEBSITE: www.cheapelectronics.co.nz

I already have products on my oscommerce site so if I put on this new template would all the existing products be deleted?

I have ABSOLUTELY no idea of any computer words so could you explain as simply as possible?

Thank you so much for your time,

I really appreciate it.

Kayne.

Installation of the template depends on what kind of template files they are. Is it just an html file with images, then you have incorporate this yourself in the oscommerce code or in a oscommerce template system. Didn't they provide you with installation instructions?

I dont know if this is any help (the following is what the person who gave it to me said) Makes no sence to me though...

"As to how to use it I don't know. I haven't used it. The template includes the actual shop script. I am thinking that You can simply reinstall the store while pointing it to the MySQL database for the one You already have. That would be the easiest way. Just make sure that before You remove the files from the other one You keep all the pictures for the products. This way You won't have to look for them and reupload. Before installing the new one check all the info on the MySQL db for the first one.

Write down the

1. database name

2. database user name

3. database password

4. database prefix

When installing new store simply enter that info when it asks for it. It all should work fine.

I would still strongly advise going to the their forum and asking. Their might be another way"

What does this mean? Im VERY CONFUSED

Cheers,

Kayne

The template you received seems to contain all the oscommerce script files. Backup the files from the server, upload the files you received to their corresponding filestructure. Dont upload (overwrite) following files:

catalog/includes/configure.php

catalog/includes/local

catalog/admin/includes/configure.php

catalog/admin/includes/local

catalog/install

See if it works like this, otherwise restore your backup files.

Of course it would be a better idea to test it first on a local sever, but this requires some experience.

Step 1: backup the existing files from the server, save them on your local pc

Step 2: upload the files from the template to your server, except for the ones I mentioned before

In case a problem occurs upload the previously saved files again to your server.

This is as basic as I can explain.

In case you can't manage, pm me your email and I'll contact you for assistance.
